Now that I have hit fifty, being healthy has become one of my major preoccupations. The following infographic from Weight Loss Foods is a sobering reminder of the need for me--and most people--to lose weight.

Well, obviously we're all going to die. The bigger issue is remaining healthy and functional until we do. Morbid obesity impacts health and lifestyle in countless, significant ways.
BMI is not always a perfect measure - for instance the BMI of a muscular man might be too high, yet he may be extremely healthy, far from overweight.
I think the secret to life long good health is this - don't smoke, drink in moderation if at all, eat plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains, a modest amount of meats (try to buy grass fed beef), don't be scared of eggs (the perfect protein) and never let your weight get out of control in the first place.
It's much easier to maintain a healthy weight from the start than to lose weight later on.

"It's much easier to maintain a healthy weight from the start than to lose weight later on."--Isn't that the truth!

I agree that BMI is not a perfect measure, but I personally know many people who are borderline for being morbidly obese and need to lose weight.

Thanks for the comment.
